Vaaaaaaaaaaaaai! Passo-a-passo ilustra de Carnaval. Step-by-step illustration of Carnival.

Então o Carnaval chegou mais uma vez!!! Pessoal, hoje um logotipo que fiz usando bastante ilustração para o blog Ziriguidum Vitória, lá do Espírito Santo. Este job começou por causa de um outro trabalho de 2009, este aqui. A dona do blog me procurou para saber se poderia usar as ilustras deste outro trabalho. Claro que não poderia liberar, primeiro porque elas já tinham sido produzidas para o outro cliente, segundo, porque o objetivo não é outro senão fazer trabalhos novos e diferentes a cada dia. Então chegamos a um acordo e ela me enviou um pequeno briefing, de onde parti para fazer um rascunho bem rápido – que está abaixo – ainda usando algumas ilustras que já tinha prontas do outro trabalho. Isso serviu para ganhar tempo e ver se era este o caminho desejado pela cliente.

Then Carnival came one more time!!! People, today I’ll show a logo using a lot of illustration for the blog Ziriguidum Vitória, from Espírito Santo. This job was started because of another 2009 work, this one. The owner of the blog came to me to know if she could use the ilustrations from this another work. Of course it could not release, first because they had already been produced for another customer, second, because the goal is none other than to do new and different work every day. Then we come to an agreement and she sent me a short briefing, where I started to make a draft very quickly – which is below – even using some ilustrations who had already finished the other work, that served to save time and see if this was the way desired by the customer.

Foi um começo bacana, mas ainda faltava algo, estava simples demais. Carnaval é uma explosão de cores, de energia. E apesar do briefing que pedia para trabalhar só com as cores rosa e azul claro – da bandeira do Estado – mudamos totalmente a direção. Decidimos acrescentar mais pessoas, colorir para valer e dar mais importância para a palavra Vitoria. O primeiro passo foram os sketches.

It was a nice start, but something was still missing, was too simple. Carnival is an explosion of color and energy. And despite the briefing which called to work only with the colors pink and light blue – from the State flag – we completely changed the direction. We decided to add more people, coloring for real and give more importance to the word Vitoria. The first step was the sketches.

Depois de definida a cara do logotipo, comecei uma pesquisa de imagens de referência dos sambistas. Por melhor que eu sambe, fotos sempre ajudam muito.

After defining the face of the logo, I began a search of reference images of samba dancers. By best I dance the Samba, pictures always help the work.

Em seguida, baseado nas fotos acima, refinei os rascunhos a lápis. Ainda assim, você vai reparar que eles estão beeeem sujos. Claro que seria mais bacana, e rápido, se eu conseguisse fazer todos meus rascunhos mais limpos. Mas tudo bem, nem sempre isso é possível, e eu também prefiro gastar mais tempo aqui, procurando acertar as formas ao máximo, antes de começar a vetorizar.

Then, based on the photos above, I refined the sketches using just pencil. Still, you will notice that they are veeeery dirty. Sure would be nice, and fast, if I could do all my sketches cleaner. But it’s okay, this is not always possible, and I’d rather spend more time here, looking for the best shapes, before starting to vectorize.

O passo seguinte foi vetorizar cada elemento: pessoas, acessórios, grafismos. Abaixo tem a versão em wireframe e a versão com as cores chapadas. Repare que todo desenho está bem estilizado, quase geométrico, com poucos detalhes. Isso foi proposital, uma vez que imaginei um resultado final com muitos elementos iria poluir muito o logo. Simplificar foi uma forma de dar um descanso visual.

The next step was to vectorize each element: people, accessories, artwork. Below is the wireframe version and the version with the flat colors. Notice that every design is very stylized, almost geometric, with few details. This was intentional, since I imagine the end result with many elements could pollute the logo. Simplify was a way to give a visual break.

Com as ilustrações praticamente prontas, veio o momento de encontrar a tipologia que combinasse melhor com ela. Geralmente meus clientes acompanham de perto todo processo, dando sugestões. E neste momento, foi fundamental a opinião deles para chegar a um resultado final que agradasse a todos. Abaixo estão as 3 versões enviadas.

With the illustrations almost ready, came the time to find the type that matches best with it. Usually my clients are closely following the entire process, giving suggestions. At that moment, their opinion was essential to reach a goal that would please everyone. Below are the three versions sent.

 

A escolhida foi a última, também a minha preferida. Depois foi partir para a finalização, onde acertei alguns detalhes, alterei cores e inseri efeitos. Tudo isso contribuiu muito para enriquecer o logotipo. Fico bastante satisfeito quando o resultado final mostra aquele sentimento que guiou toda a criação: uma explosão de cor, de alegria.

The chosen was the last one, also my favorite. Then it was to the end, where I hit some details, changed colors and insert some effects. All this contributed pretty much to enrich the logo. I am very happy when the final result shows that feeling that lead all the creation: an explosion of color and joy.
